Pictures of my parents time in India

Bodh Gaya: (60 km from Patna)

The giant Buddha statue in Bodh Gaya

The main Buddhist temple built next to the tree under which the Buddha supposedly first achieved enlightenment.

Comfy dog.

Kids playing with some prayer wheels. These wheels are cylinders that have prayers written on them and the little black steering wheels allow you to spin the cylinders. The idea is that giving the prayer motion is the same as saying it outloud.

Can you find Uncle Jack in his orange hat?

Varanasi:

We went on a morning boatride along the Ganges and saw all of the ghats (bathing areas with concrete steps)

Our boat's engine stopped working so our captain jumped into the water to dislodge the plant that had seemingly been caught in the prop blade. This is him climbing back into the boat

Another boat came to help us out with out problems

And ended up towing us to slower moving water so we could start the engine.

One of the main ghats were thousands of people come to bath.

Agra and the Taj Mahal:

View of the backside (pun intended) from across the Yamuna river at sunrise.

View from the road on the way into the main grounds.

We were taking to a place that does marble inlay work with semi precious stones. They were just trying to sell us stuff but it was cool to see how this stuff is made.
One table top illuminated from underneath. Some of the semi precious stones are translucent so they glow when illuminated.
One particularly intricate piece.

The "Baby Taj" is a building where the father of the women who is buried in the Taj lived for many years.

Then we got taken to a handmade rug shop and they tried to sell us a bunch of stuff.

Watching them make the rugs buy hand was pretty cool though

Chandigarh:

All of these pictures are from the rock garden/sculpture garden in Chandigarh

Shimla

Shimla hill station. Ex- summer getaway for the Colonialists

The car-less mall road where all the tourists do their shopping

Christchurch and scandal point area

Chadwick falls. After many wrong turns and about 5 miles of walking we found this trash-covered beauty
